Jakob Weidemann made this painting, Svart og gul komposisjon, with black and yellow paint. The way he's used the colors—or lack thereof—feels really decisive, almost like a conversation between darkness and light. You know, when you look at the surface, you can tell it's been worked and reworked. There are these moments where the black paint is really thick, almost sculptural, and then other spots where it’s thin, revealing a bit of the canvas underneath. I'm drawn to that checkered structure up in the top right, how it anchors the eye and makes you question what's solid and what's just shadow. It’s like Weidemann is playing with space, pushing and pulling it. It puts me in mind of Franz Kline, who was also really into the power of black and white, but Weidemann has a quieter, more contemplative vibe. It’s this ongoing dialogue, an artist responding to another, figuring out their own path.
