"Vlucht naar Egypte" (Flight into Egypt) is an etching created between 1607 and 1728 by an anonymous artist. The artwork depicts the biblical story of the Holy Family’s escape to Egypt to evade King Herod’s massacre of infants. Mary sits astride a donkey with the Christ child in her arms. Joseph walks beside the animal with a staff, while a cow follows behind them. Two winged cherubs play in a stream below. The etching, which is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, is a powerful reminder of the story of the Holy Family's flight. The use of detail and emotion in the scene brings the biblical tale to life.
