This is a double flute made by Michiel Parent. It is made of wood and has two openings and eight finger holes. In cultures throughout history, music, like the flute’s melody, has carried symbolic power, echoing through rituals, celebrations, and even mourning. Think of the ancient Greek aulos, often depicted in ecstatic Dionysian rites. The flute's sound becomes a potent symbol of emotion and spiritual release. Our collective memory connects the flute’s sound with deeply human experiences. It evokes subconscious feelings, engaging viewers on a profound level. Consider the flute’s form—a hollow tube transformed into a vessel of sound. The symbolism reminds me of the cyclical nature of life. A simple design of a wooden cylinder has resurfaced, evolved, and taken on new meanings in different historical contexts.
