This photograph of a ship was produced by Atelier Kurkdjian. The sepia tones give the image a dreamlike quality; it's all very gentle and evocative. I imagine the photographer must have felt a great sense of possibility and adventure as they took the shot. The ship looms large in the frame, and you can sense the excitement and trepidation of a journey about to begin. The title, “Goede Reis - tot weerziens” suggests both farewell and the anticipation of seeing one another again. I find myself thinking about other images of ships and ports. The harbor scenes of J.M.W. Turner come to mind, capturing a similar feeling of maritime adventure. Like Turner, Kurkdjian invites us to contemplate our relationship with the world. It’s an ongoing exchange of ideas across time, which inspires me to think about how we're all connected.
