This is an anonymous plaque depicting an interior with figures, a delicate work of art whose precise origins remain unknown. The composition invites us into a world meticulously divided into thirds. On the left, a domestic interior reveals a glimpse of private life; in the center, figures interact in a space defined by linearity and formality; and to the right, an opening frames an exterior garden. The palette is soft, dominated by pastel hues that create a serene yet subtly melancholic atmosphere. Each section is rendered with a miniaturist's attention to detail, emphasizing the spatial arrangement and the geometric forms that structure the composition. Note the interplay between open and closed spaces, as well as the contrast between the geometric rigour of the architecture and the organic forms of the natural elements. These juxtapositions challenge our understanding of interiority and exteriority, prompting us to consider how space shapes perception and meaning.

A man in summer dress converses with a Manchurian woman, recognizable from her large shoes and broad hairstyle. The books and writing materials in the cabinet suggest that she is well educated. The four plaques in this series are still in their original Chinese lacquer frames.
