Enzo Cucchi made Ebbro using paint. The painting is full of strong, impulsive gestures, with a colour palette dominated by yellows, reds, and blacks. I can imagine Cucchi working on this, adding layer upon layer, shifting things around until it felt just right. It's hard not to feel for the artist here, trying to wrestle something meaningful out of thin air. Look at the texture, the way the paint sits on the surface—thick in some places, thin in others. Notice how the red strokes in the background create a sense of turbulence, as if the whole scene is vibrating with energy. And those figures, struggling to hold up that bright yellow building, it all feels symbolic of the weight of the world, or maybe the weight of history. Cucchi’s part of a long conversation among painters. Artists are always building on what’s come before, remixing ideas and pushing things forward. The act of painting is an embodied expression, full of uncertainty but also ripe with possibility. It’s a space where things can emerge, shift, and surprise us, allowing for multiple readings.
