This print, Six Times Eight, Dreaming, by Peter Phillips, seems to be made with a photographic process – maybe silkscreen, or lithography, I'm not sure. But I can imagine Phillips shuffling images of motorcycles, cute kittens, and dreamy looking women in the studio, like cards. The composition has a psychedelic quality, and the rainbow border reminds me of the CMYK separations of early Pop art prints. I wonder what it was like for him to create this, what he was thinking? I bet he was riffing off the media spectacle, reinterpreting high and low art. Like all artists, Peter Phillips engages in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time, inspiring creativity. It's as though the artist is inviting us to embrace ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
