This page of annotations was made by George Hendrik Breitner. It's all about process, right? It's not just about the final product, but the act of getting there. Look at how Breitner's handwriting almost dances across the page. The ink bleeds a little, giving it a kind of soft edge. You can see him thinking, crossing things out, adding notes. It's like a visual record of his thought process. You see these lists of places, "Damrak, Kech & Haar loom", these are real places in Amsterdam, so maybe it’s a list of places he was planning to paint. Each word is not just information, but a little gesture, a little mark. This page to me shows how the act of creating can be a conversation, an exploration, and a really personal journey. Think of Cy Twombly, who also made sketchbooks of almost illegible handwriting, it reminds us that art doesn’t always have to be about answers, but about asking questions and embracing the messy, beautiful ambiguity of life.
