These two black and white photographs of Frank van den Berg with a dog and a view of the Amstelhof in Amsterdam are a personal record. It’s like a quiet conversation with oneself, right? The image on top captures a man and his dog, both caught in a moment of stillness that hints at an intimate connection. Down below, there's a view of a building, maybe a place that held significance. Both images are very intimate and personal. The tonal range of the blacks, whites, and grays—they aren’t just about documenting, they are about feeling. Notice the shadow of the photographer in the upper image, and the building in the lower image. For me, these photographs capture a sense of place and belonging. It reminds me a little bit of the work of artists like Wolfgang Tillmans, who also finds beauty and meaning in the everyday. And ultimately, art is about inviting others into your world.
