Yervand Kochar made this sculpture using paint on metal, and the way he approaches color really grabs me. The tones melt into each other, making the figure feel both solid and like it's dissolving at the same time. If you step closer, you can see how the paint isn't applied to hide the process, but to reveal it. There's a section near the bottom with looping lines of turquoise and red – they almost seem to be dancing together! The colors create a sense of movement and depth, it's like the piece is breathing. Kochar's use of line and form reminds me a bit of Picasso's cubist works, where the figure is broken down and reassembled. Yet, unlike Picasso, Kochar maintains a sense of fluidity. It's a reminder that art doesn't have to be fixed or certain; it can be a space for exploration and questioning.
