Here we see a drawing by Alevtyna Kakhidze, made with what looks like ink on paper. The stark black lines and minimal blue dashes create a scene that’s both intimate and unsettling. It’s all about the immediacy of the mark, the way the line wobbles and thickens, revealing the artist’s hand and thought process. I love the way the artist uses these simple means to convey complex ideas. The figure in the tub, the text scrawled across the bottom - "Dear President, give me it, I will clean it first, it is brainwashed” - it all comes together in this raw, unfiltered expression. The lines are so direct, so unpretentious. The text, rendered in blue, contrasts with the stark black lines of the drawing, adding another layer to the emotional resonance of the work. It reminds me a bit of David Shrigley, with its dark humor and disarming simplicity. Like Shrigley, Kakhidze isn't afraid to embrace ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own interpretations to the table.
