Editor: Here we have an intriguing "Untitled" painting by Zdzislaw Beksinski, rendered in acrylic. The first thing that struck me was its strange beauty – both inviting and unsettling. What are your initial thoughts when you look at this piece? Curator: Oh, Beksinski. His works always feel like peering into a dream, or perhaps a nightmare we didn't know we had. It reminds me of something primordial. The organic form dominates the space, this colossal tree, almost like a landscape contained within itself. See how the textures shift? It's unsettling, in a strangely beautiful way, isn't it? I wonder, does the intense coloration and textures lead you to see beyond a simple tree? Editor: I do see more. There is this top part which feels…organic in an unnatural way. Almost diseased? What do you think Beksinski wanted to express by combining these alluring and repellent aspects? Curator: That tension is quintessential Beksinski, isn’t it? He rejected concrete interpretations, famously stating his art aimed to evoke feelings rather than tell stories. Perhaps he sought to reflect on our own complex relationship with the natural world. Think of decay being inseparable from growth, horror from wonder. It is fascinating that you are repelled and attracted by this image at the same time. It definitely worked for me! Editor: That's a perspective shift for me! So it is more about the feeling of conflicting states coexisting? Thank you for opening up a new way to appreciate it! Curator: Absolutely. It's like glimpsing something vast and unknowable in the folds of something familiar. Makes you wonder what other landscapes, both internal and external, are waiting to be discovered, doesn’t it?
