Curator: T.L. Solien's "Excalibur" presents us with a strange, almost totemic image. Its dimensions are roughly 1066 x 412 mm. Editor: It feels both ancient and futuristic, doesn't it? Stark black lines against a faded sky… there's a real tension. Curator: The title implies a connection to Arthurian legend, but the imagery is far removed from traditional depictions. I see an almost unsettling deconstruction of power. Editor: I agree. The sword is abstracted, even tribal. It's as if Solien is asking us to reconsider the symbols we inherit, to see the potential for violence inherent in them. Curator: I think you’re spot on. The cultural meaning shifts radically. Editor: This piece really asks us to dig deeper and challenge what we think we know about history and its impact.
