This photograph of an eight-and-a-half-month-old baby, Klaas Kleiterp, was likely taken in Malang. It's a world of soft grays, the kind that makes you feel like you're looking through a comforting mist. I love how the light falls unevenly across the surface, picking out the soft details of the baby’s face and the folds in the bedding. The textures, though subtle, invite you closer. You can almost feel the smoothness of the baby's skin, the delicate lace trim of the pillow. There's a little bear beside the baby, a dark shape that anchors the composition, contrasting with the lightness of the crib. It reminds me of some of Gerhard Richter’s photo paintings, those blurry, half-remembered images. But here, the blur isn't deliberate, it's the nature of the medium, a kind of accidental beauty. Like all good art, it's not about perfection, but about capturing a moment, an idea, an emotion.
