Victor Vasarely made CTA 102 #4 with paint sometime in the 20th century. You know, looking at this piece reminds me of how art can trick the eye. The surface is so smooth, almost like it was printed, but the colours! They shift from dark burgundy to a blazing orange, with a sea of green all around. I'm struck by how this piece doesn’t hide its process, but celebrates it, like a math equation made beautiful. There’s something about the regularity of the circles that feels very 60s to me, but with a contemporary twist. It reminds me of Bridget Riley's work, but with a warmer palette. Ultimately, it shows how art is a conversation across time, always building, always questioning. It’s all about seeing, and feeling, and not necessarily knowing for sure.
