Arno König made "Surge during rain" with watercolor on paper. It's like he captured a fleeting moment, a quick impression. The washes of color blend and bleed, giving a sense of immediacy, like he's right there, painting in the rain. The colors are muted, mostly grays and blues, with hints of green and purple. Look how he layers the washes, creating depth and texture. The paint is thin and transparent, allowing the paper to peek through in places. It's kind of raw, you can see the process, the hand of the artist at work. Notice the dark horizontal line in the middle, is it land, or sea? It reminds me a little bit of Emil Nolde's seascapes, that same sense of drama and raw emotion. But König's work has a more delicate touch, a quiet intensity. Art is always in conversation with itself, echoing and responding to the past, while also forging its own path. It’s never just one thing, it’s always a question, an invitation to see the world in a new way.
