Editor: This is "Winter" by Donald Shaw MacLaughlan, an etching. I am struck by the bareness and the sort of stark, empty feeling it gives. What social narratives do you see playing out in this image? Curator: The scene presents a landscape stripped bare, inviting us to consider themes of marginalization and resilience. What spaces are rendered invisible by the dominant narratives we tell about nature? Editor: That's interesting! I hadn't thought of it like that. Curator: Landscapes often reflect power dynamics. Who has access to this land, and whose stories are silenced by its representation? Editor: It makes me think about climate change and how some communities are disproportionately affected. Curator: Exactly. Art can be a lens through which we examine these intersections of place, power, and identity. Editor: I’ll never look at a landscape the same way again.
