Editor: This is "Postcard Sculpture 1974" by Gilbert & George, currently in the Tate Collections. It's comprised of many black and white postcards arranged in a grid. It gives me a sense of fragmented memories. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It’s interesting to consider this work in the context of institutional critique. How do Gilbert & George use commonplace imagery to question the authority and narrative construction inherent in art and museums? Editor: So, you're saying it's more about challenging the art world itself? Curator: Precisely! Does the work shift your understanding of how artists can engage with, and challenge, cultural institutions? Editor: It does. I thought it was about personal memory, but it's also a commentary on how museums shape collective memory.
