Robert Frank shot this series of black and white photos, Macy's parade no number, to probe the textures and rhythms of urban life. The whole thing feels like a hazy memory, each frame a fragmented moment. Look at how Frank plays with light and shadow. The graininess adds this gritty, almost anxious feel, right? The contrast is stark, which makes everything seem more intense. It’s like he's not just showing us the parade, but also the feeling of being there, the chaos and excitement and maybe even a bit of alienation. The way he frames each shot, slightly off-kilter, you can feel the street moving, the energy of the crowd. You know, Frank reminds me a little of Diane Arbus. Both of them had a knack for finding the beauty and the strangeness in everyday life. And like a great painting, this collection is more about questions than answers.
