Editor: Here we have John Piper's "Royal Holloway College," its date is unknown, at the Tate. The image is awash in fiery reds, and it strikes me as both beautiful and a little ominous. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Well, aren't those intense colors something? I see a building consumed by its own history, almost as if it's a fever dream. Perhaps it is a reflection of Piper’s interest in the dramatic and romantic qualities of architecture. What do you think? Editor: A fever dream, that’s apt! It definitely gives a sense of the building having a life of its own. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure! It's always nice to find a new angle on something familiar.
