Albert Julius Olsson made this landscape of Northern Ireland with oil on canvas. Look at the brushwork, the sky and sea are alive with movement. You can almost feel the wind and taste the salt in the air. I can imagine Olsson standing on the shore, squinting into the light, trying to capture the rugged beauty of the coastline. Did he mix those pinks and oranges himself? What a marvel! Each stroke seems to dance with a life of its own. It feels like he’s not just painting a picture, but also trying to catch a feeling. Olsson’s paintings remind me of Turner, of course, but there’s something distinctly his. It's like he’s inviting us to step into his shoes and see the world through his eyes, full of wonder and awe. As painters we're all in this ongoing conversation, riffing off each other, pushing the boundaries of what paint can do, and how it can make us feel.
