These two photographs by Frank Willem van den Berg capture his family during what appears to be a holiday in the Alps. Van den Berg, born in 1912, lived through a period of immense social change, and while we don't know the exact date, one can imagine these photos reflect an era where leisure and travel became more accessible to middle-class families. The images offer a glimpse into the intimate moments of a family, set against the backdrop of the Alps. One photograph shows a group gathered around a fountain in a quaint village, while the other captures figures walking through a snowy park. These images present a composed view of family life. Perhaps the purpose was to capture ideal memories, to be looked back upon in years to come. What do these images say about the intersection of personal identity, leisure, and the desire to document one's place in a changing world?
