This is a photograph by A.G.A. van Eelde of the Tuin met waterbassin bij hotel Xhar Bagh in Isfahan, Perzië. I can imagine van Eelde standing in the garden, looking at the geometry of the space, thinking about how to translate what he sees into a two-dimensional image. The photo looks like it was taken on a cloudy day. This gives the image a soft, diffused light, making the contrasts subtle and muted. The reflections on the water surface create a dreamy, ethereal quality, almost blurring the line between the architecture and its surroundings. I wonder what van Eelde was thinking about when he captured this scene. Perhaps he was contemplating the garden's design and the tranquility it offered, or maybe he was simply drawn to the play of light and shadow. Whatever it was, he translated his observations into something beautiful.
