Vincent Burzy made this drawing of a comb, we don’t know exactly when, using pencil on paper. The thing that strikes me is that Burzy seems to be working through a design, playing with different variations of the same object to explore its possibilities. The marks are delicate, almost tentative, but there is a real confidence in the repetition of the lines, building up a sense of depth and texture. Look at the way the light catches the top edge of the comb, each little point carefully delineated. It reminds me of Seurat, or even Agnes Martin, the way they used repetition to create a shimmering effect. It's also interesting to see the different scales of the combs, the one on the left is much smaller, almost like a sketch, while the central one is more detailed and finished. Ultimately, it’s a reminder that art is a process, a journey of discovery, rather than a fixed destination.
