Editor: This print by Christopher Le Brun is untitled and uses dark monochromatic marks that seem to weave in and out of each other. What stands out to you in this piece? Curator: Notice how the pale, almost skeletal forms suggest both growth and decay, evoking the cyclical nature of life and death, a theme prevalent in vanitas imagery. Do you see any symbolic resonance in the interwoven shapes? Editor: I see that now! I hadn't considered the deeper symbolism at first. Thanks. Curator: Consider also how abstraction allows for a more direct engagement with our subconscious. The symbols are there, but they are felt as much as they are seen.
