Majel G. Claflin made this design from a proposed portfolio, using gouache and graphite on paper. The way Claflin orchestrates these flat planes of colour is so bold. This piece is a celebration of shape and form. The colour palette is so simple, but those bold reds, blues, and yellows really sing. It’s almost like she’s saying, "Look, I can do so much with so little". I’m especially drawn to the way Claflin balances structure with spontaneity. Those hand-drawn lines create an energy, like the whole design is about to bloom. It reminds me of textile designs by Sonia Delaunay, who also had a knack for turning simple shapes into vibrant compositions. Ultimately, the beauty of Claflin’s design is that it invites us to see the world with fresh eyes.
