"Man in een monnikspij buigt voor een vrouw" is an engraving by Dutch artist Reinier Vinkeles, dating from between 1800 and 1816. The artwork, housed in the Rijksmuseum, depicts a dramatic scene with a woman, her face obscured by a veil, standing in a room and a man dressed as a monk bowing in front of her. The woman is seen reacting with fear, her right hand raised as if gesturing away from the monk. This intriguing composition, featuring a sense of mystery and suspense, is characteristic of the 18th-century Dutch engraving tradition.
