Johan Gether 1765

This 1765 engraving by Jonas Haas depicts Johann Gether, the Royal Master of Ceremonies for the King of Denmark. The image shows Gether seated in an elaborate frame with a view of the city of Copenhagen in the background. The work, which measures 225 mm by 170 mm, is a classic example of portraiture from the Rococo period. The detailed lines and shading give the work a sense of realism and grandeur. The engraving is currently housed at the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen.
