Jo Bezaan made this print, Molen, with etching. The moody sky and landscape are created through dense hatched marks. The tone is subtle, and there's a sort of stillness to the scene. Bezaan has this simple composition, a windmill, some trees, and rolling hills, but she renders it with a confident and clear vision. I can see her making this, working the plate, wiping away the excess ink, and printing. Did she make it in a single go? Or were there multiple attempts and changes to the design? It reminds me of other artists I admire who captured the natural world with such an economy of means. The print is also special and speaks to the artist's dedication to their craft. We are all in conversation with one another, riffing and expanding upon the ideas that came before.
