Xul Solar made this architectural fantasy, Proyecto Fachada Delta (#1), out of watercolor and ink. Look at all these shapes! Solar’s got a real knack for transforming simple lines into little worlds. The architecture is teetering, like something out of a dream. It's as if he's not just building a structure but also a whole new way of seeing. You can feel him thinking, one form at a time, about how it all fits together. Those ladders and those funny little symbolic figures... They're like code, aren't they? Trying to imagine what he was thinking when he put them there makes my head spin. I just love how Solar embraced the quirky side of painting, building up something so intricate and colorful with such basic materials. It’s a reminder that great art doesn’t always need to be fancy or serious; sometimes, it just needs to be true to itself. Like so many artists, Xul Solar built on the ideas of others, and now we get to respond to what he made.
