This silver needle case, created around 1781 by Dirk Hoep, is a fine example of 18th-century Dutch craftsmanship. The elongated case is decorated with intricate engravings, including a portrait of Dutch Admiral J.A. Zoutman. The needle case served a practical purpose, storing needles for sewing and embroidery, but also functioned as a commemorative object, celebrating Zoutman's naval victories.
