Nancy Andrews made this photograph, "Elvis 'Themselvis': Leigh Crow," and it just vibrates with obsessive love. It’s all about the surface, the material, the way the image seems to crawl right up to meet you. The texture, the grays, the composition - it’s not just about what's being shown, but also the way that it’s being shown. Look at the way the black and white tones create this depth, or maybe a lack of depth, across the whole image. The photo’s surface is covered in other Elvis imagery - like, what does Elvis *mean*? What is clear is that making art, like life, is a conversation. It’s about working through something, not resolving it and Andrews presents us with an artwork that doesn’t try to tie things up with a neat little bow.
