This is the cover of 'Nieuwe zee der kunsten - 31', made by Furuya Kōrin. It's a print, and it feels so immediate. Like a spontaneous thought caught on paper. The waves, rendered in pale orange, suggest movement but also feel static, like thoughts circling. And those snowflake shapes, like pale grey asterisks punctuating the composition. They feel playful, almost cartoonish. I can almost feel the artist's hand, the way the brush moved to create those lines. It's really amazing how Kōrin balances simplicity with depth. You see it in the directness of folk art, the same kind of no-nonsense approach you get from someone like Bill Traylor. Except Traylor went straight for the emotional gut, and Kōrin is playing with the mind a little more. It’s a reminder that art isn't about answers, it's about the ongoing conversation.
