This drawing of a chandelier was made by Florence Huston, but we don't know exactly when. Just look at the marks she makes with her pen; lines so precise they become sculptural. I think of her, maybe sitting at a table, focused, drawing this object. I think about how hard it is to really see something - to look so hard that you can build it line by line. See how the lines darken to give a sense of the volume, the weight of the metal? I like to think of drawing like a type of touch; Huston exploring the chandelier by hand, by eye, and through the tip of her pen. You can see the influence of architectural drawing in its detail. It's like she is saying: “I see you, chandelier!” And in return, we get to really see it too.
