Imi Knoebel’s *Weiss und Schwarz-4* is an arrangement of painted square panels, teetering in an asymmetrical grid of monochrome. I can imagine Knoebel shuffling around these forms, trying out different positions. There’s a simplicity to the palette of black and white which brings the composition itself into focus. Like the best improvisational paintings, it’s full of risks, testing where the limits of balance might be. Think about how the slightest adjustment can create an entirely different feeling—a little bit more to the left or right, and suddenly the whole thing falls apart! It makes me think of Sol LeWitt's modular structures, but with a playful, human touch. There’s something deeply satisfying about how these forms interlock, creating a dynamic whole. Artists have always looked to one another, and these visual conversations ripple across time, inspiring us to see and think differently. The conversation continues!
