This "Tactile Rainbow Room" was made by Ay-O, and it’s not just something to look at, it’s something to feel. The squares upon squares of color, shrinking into the center, make me think about art as a process of repetition, a mantra, like Agnes Martin meets a funhouse. The rainbow is a loaded symbol; it can be about hope, or pride, or just a pretty natural phenomenon. What's interesting here is how Ay-O takes something so ephemeral and makes it architectural, almost oppressive in its intensity. Each square vibrates with color, like a portal or a target. I'm drawn to the imperfections, the slight misalignments that reveal the handmade nature of the piece, the human touch. It reminds me of Yayoi Kusama’s immersive installations, but with a hard-edged, geometric twist. Is it psychedelic? Absolutely. Is it also deeply considered and formally rigorous? I think so. Art is about conversation, and Ay-O is in dialogue with the history of abstraction, pop art, and the boundless possibilities of color.
