Editor: This is Paula Eliasoph’s "Maple Tree in Central Park," a black and white print. It feels very still, almost frozen in time. What do you see in this piece? Curator: The solitary figure beneath the expansive tree speaks volumes about the individual's relationship to public space. Consider who has historically had access to Central Park, and whose stories are told. Does this image reflect or challenge those power dynamics? Editor: I hadn't thought about it that way. It’s more than just a peaceful scene. Curator: Exactly. Art often invites us to question the narratives we take for granted and examine whose voices are amplified and whose are silenced. Editor: It really changes how I see the print now. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure. Keep questioning.
