David Kakabadzé’s ‘Constructive-decorative composition’ uses mixed media to explore the process of artmaking itself. The color palette is muted, with grays and browns dominating, creating a sense of industrial coolness. The real magic is in the physicality of the medium. Kakabadzé uses actual objects and different textures to create depth and interest; look closely at how he incorporates these materials, layering them to construct a playful yet rigorous composition. Check out the curve at the top of the image, and the suggestion of a shadow beneath it. The curve is a fragment, a trace, or maybe a suggestion of something else to come. This approach feels reminiscent of Kurt Schwitters' Merz collages, where found objects and scraps become the building blocks of a new artistic language. Kakabadzé invites us to reconsider the boundaries between art and life, prompting us to see the world as a collection of possibilities.
