David Kakabadzé made this ‘Constructive-decorative composition’ with mixed media, but when? Who knows! What I like about this piece is how humble its materials are. The artist probably roamed around his house or studio and just picked up whatever was lying about—buttons, metal scraps, who knows? Then, he arranged them on a grey background, almost like a stage set. I can imagine him fiddling with each element, trying different arrangements until they clicked. Does that arc of buttons suggest a path, a journey? That blue rectangle, is it a shadow? There's something playful and mysterious about how these shapes interact. It reminds me a bit of Kurt Schwitters and his collages, how they both elevated everyday materials into art. It’s like they’re saying, hey, art can be found anywhere, in the most unexpected places. What a revelation!
