This is a 1-cent coin produced in Amsterdam between 1824 and 1837. The coin, which is 2.6 cm in diameter and weighs 9.13 grams, features the inscription "WERKHUIS - VOOR - ARBEID" on one side and the coat of arms of Amsterdam on the other. These coins were produced as a form of currency used within the workhouses of Amsterdam, where the poor and unemployed were housed and given work in return for food and shelter.
