"Barmhartige Samaritaan" (c. 1711s) is an etching by Dutch artist Willem de Broen (1686-1748), depicting a scene from the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan. The etching, now housed in the Rijksmuseum, showcases de Broen’s mastery of detail and perspective, capturing the compassion of the Samaritan as he tends to the injured man. The use of chiaroscuro, with strong contrasts of light and shadow, creates a dramatic and poignant scene, highlighting the themes of mercy and empathy central to the parable.
