Xul Solar made "Visión en fin al Camino" with watercolor, gouache, and ink, and right away, you're struck by the way he lays down the paint – thin washes, kind of like he's building up layers of atmosphere. It’s like he's not just painting a scene, but an entire world, you know? Look at how he uses color. Earthy tones, but then these pops of vibrant green and yellow. There's a dreamlike quality to it, almost like a stage set. And the way he defines the forms with these crisp, dark outlines, it's not quite cartoonish, but it's got this graphic punch that really grabs your eye. I keep coming back to those figures though, especially the one at the end of the path. The way they're rendered with such simple lines, it makes them feel both present and distant, like they're part of the landscape but also something else entirely. I see echoes of Giorgio de Chirico's surreal cityscapes here, or maybe even some nods to Klee. But really, Solar is doing his own thing, and it's pretty magical.
