Constantin Flondor made this 'Landscape' with, what looks like, oil pastels. You can feel the hand of the artist at work, shifting and emerging through trial, error, and intuition. Looking at it, I sympathize with the artist, I think about what it might have been like to create. What were they thinking when they made it? There's a real sense of freedom here, the ochre and earthy tones contrasting with the lavender swirls and a bright pop of turquoise. It's all about texture, color, and surface. I love the big swooping marks, they communicate feeling, intention, meaning. The little white lines make me think of Joan Miró! Really, artists are in an ongoing conversation across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. Painting is a form of embodied expression which embraces ambiguity, allowing for multiple interpretations, resisting fixed or definitive readings.
