Editor: So, here we have Paula Rego's drawing for 'The Dance,' currently residing in the Tate. It's a flurry of figures in sepia tones, kind of intense. What do you make of it? Curator: It feels like a childhood game seen through a slightly unsettling lens, doesn't it? The swirling figures, the ambiguous setting... Rego often revisits childhood memories, but not always with rose-tinted glasses. Do you sense a tension beneath the surface? Editor: Definitely. There's something almost menacing about the figures. The heavy sky adds to it. Curator: Exactly! The power dynamics at play. Is it a celebration, or something more like a ritual? Rego's genius lies in that ambiguity. Editor: That’s fascinating, I hadn’t considered that. Thanks for opening my eyes to it! Curator: My pleasure! It’s all about finding your own dance within the art, isn't it?
