Abie Loy Kemarre's ‘Bush Leaves’ is an invitation into process, rendered with striking simplicity. It’s all about the mark, a kind of patient, rhythmic dance of strokes, built with acrylic paint. Look closer, and you see how each dab, each tiny leaf, vibrates with its own energy. There's no attempt to hide the hand, the gesture. In fact, it’s all about the making, the doing, the slow build up of the surface. This isn't just a picture of leaves, it’s more like a meditation on them. The dark paint against the white ground creates a kind of optical buzz. The surface seems to move, breathe almost. This reminds me of the work of Agnes Martin, where subtle variations in line and tone create a similar sense of movement and vibration. Ultimately, it's up to us to feel the rhythm and find our own path.
