Justin Earl Grant made "Planeta π," sometime around now, using what looks like watercolor and ink on paper. It's the kind of piece that makes you think about art as a process of discovery. The colors are bright, almost childlike, and the lines are loose and free, like the artist is just letting his hand wander across the page. There is this vertical stroke of blue ink down the middle. It's like a vein, or maybe a river, holding the whole thing together. The paint is thin and transparent, so you can see all the layers underneath. It makes you feel like you’re peering into the artist’s mind, seeing all the different ideas and impulses that went into making this thing. The piece reminds me of the work of Henri Michaux, who was always experimenting with different ways of representing consciousness. Art isn't about having all the answers, it's about asking questions and staying open to whatever comes next.
