This printed textile was made by Joseph Lubrano, though we don't have a date for it. It's amazing to think that Lubrano was alive for so long! I’m really drawn to the way the pattern repeats, creating a rhythm across the fabric. It’s a conversation between the birds, the leaves, and the flowers, like a little ecosystem captured in cloth. The colours feel muted, almost faded, which gives it a nostalgic, vintage vibe. Look at how the red outlines of the trees are visible through the bodies of the birds. It reminds me of the way colours mix and blend in a painting, creating depth and texture. You can imagine Lubrano carefully layering each colour, building up the pattern piece by piece. There's a sense of process to the design, a feeling that it wasn’t just printed, but crafted. It reminds me of the patterns of William Morris, who also sought to bring beauty and craftsmanship to everyday objects. It’s a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places, transforming the mundane into something extraordinary.
