This is Christian Eckart's 'Hexagonal Perturbation #6' and you know, it's not immediately clear what it's made of. Is it some kind of sculptural painting? A painted sculpture? The purple, mauve, and teal are subtle and really intriguing. I'm thinking about how he might have made it: building it up, but from what? I imagine Eckart finding satisfaction in the folds, creating a structure that's both simple and complex. Each triangle is slightly different, catching the light in its own way. It reminds me a little of Sol LeWitt's wall drawings but there's a kind of human touch, almost like origami. Eckart has a whole body of work that plays with light and surface and this is such a lovely example. I love how painting can be in dialogue with other forms, and how one artist's curiosity can spark a whole conversation across time and different media.
