Louise Bourgeois drew "Tree with Shoes" with an open, almost diagrammatic simplicity, her lines hovering on the page. Imagine her, maybe at night, in her studio, drawing these curves and hard lines. It’s like she’s saying, "Look, trees can wear shoes too, if they want." I can almost see her, hovering over the paper, considering what a tree might wear, what kind of shoes it would choose. The drawing brings to mind other artists like Eva Hesse, who also explored the tension between organic and geometric forms. But Bourgeois adds this weird, personal twist, making it all about memory and the body. What does it mean to wear shoes? Does it make the tree more human, or does it highlight the artificiality of our human condition? It’s this play between vulnerability and strength that makes Bourgeois such a compelling artist, she invites us to bring our own memories and emotions to the table, and to see the world in a new way.
