This is a vintage photograph, likely captured with a glass plate camera, of a woman wearing a necklace. Imagine Bobs there in the darkroom watching the image slowly come into being. What was it like? The sepia tones give it such a hazy feel. You can feel the light is finding its way into the shadows. You can see how the artist plays with the light reflecting from the sitter's face, her hair, and the lace trimming her collar. It reminds me of the portraits by Julia Margaret Cameron, with her distinctive soft-focus style. There’s something very haunting about this image, and the woman's serious stare. It feels like a conversation across time, doesn't it? I feel as though these artists are in an ongoing exchange of ideas, inspiring each other’s creativity across generations.
