This is Bobs' “Portret van een vrouw met halsketting”, its size is closer to my hand than a canvas, it’s like holding a world in miniature. The sepia tones give it such warmth, like an old memory, a process that time itself has smudged. It's not about sharp details, but the feeling, the essence of this woman. The lace around her neck, blurred just enough, it feels like Bobs wasn't trying to capture a perfect image, but a moment, a feeling. Look how the light hits her face, soft, diffused. You get the impression that the process is about revealing something, not just recording it. It reminds me of the work of artists like Alice Neel, who also captured their subjects with such tenderness. There’s something about art, it is an ongoing conversation across time, that doesn’t have to be definitive.
