Keith Haring made this print called "Untitled" with lithography, and you can see the way he's thinking about the process of making art right there on the surface. It's all about the immediacy of the mark, the outline, the energy of the line. Look at these figures, piled on top of each other, little radiating lines coming off them. It’s not about depth or realism, but about capturing a feeling, an attitude. The red border contains the work, but it doesn't contain the energy of the image. Haring’s work always makes me think of Jean Dubuffet, another artist who knew how to tap into the raw, unfiltered energy of the everyday. Both of them remind us that art isn't about perfection, it's about expression, about finding a way to communicate through the simplest of means.
